About us

The Joy of Being at JGS

Discovering students’ innate potential and connecting to their authentic selves is the
foundation and focus of our school. For four decades, Johnson Grammar School has been encouraging students to freely exchange ideas and opinions, explore leadership opportunities, and assume positions of responsibility. Through broad and deep curriculums, from ICSE, ISC and IB PYP to IBDP, we manifest in students the joy of learning everything. Our extracurricular initiatives for students encourage flexible attitude and risk-taking behaviour leading to the creation of unique identities. To guide our students’ emotional and rational intelligence, the teaching methodologies and pedagogies are comprehensive and contributing. Beyond academic studies at JGS, we offer various co-curricular activities to help students explore various interests, develop new skills, and enhance their overall personal and social growth.
Many students who are now our esteemed alumni have made their way to other higher
learning institutions and are well placed at eminent positions outside the country. This is a standing testimony to the intent and purpose of Johnson Grammar School as a place for excellence and Joy of Being.

About our Chairman,

Dr. B. Chandra Sekhar

Our Chairman Dr. B. Chandra Sekhar started his journey in the field of education in the year 1983. Being a true visionary at heart and believer in the philosophy of ‘We=Success’, trust is the biggest asset he has estabilished at the core of his organisation over the years. He firmly believes that the organisation’s success is attributed to teamwork rather than a one-person show. He believes that a shared vision creates unity and loyalty among all the team members leading to the feeling of credibility internally and externally.

LEARNING & PEDAGOGY

Transformational structure
“Learning is beyond the process of acquiring knowledge, it’s the formation of identity and character”
At Johnson Grammar School, curriculum and extracurricular activities are designed both in breadth and in depth to form a cohesive whole, developing students with a genuine love for learning. The coherent teaching methodology of JGS enables students to effectively use their sensory and motor skills to help them discover what works best for them.

Education is not just about learning facts but about training the mind to think – this is what we impart to students at JGS. We are a school that harnesses the power of research to drive innovation in learning. Students are continually encouraged to reflect and engage with the teachings themselves through trial and implementation.

At JGS, teachers guide students in analysing the right pathways, an essential skill for stepping onto the road to success. Our teaching focuses on helping students break down curricular and extracurricular activities into components, understand how to organize these components, recognize their interrelationships, and distinguish between them. This methodology enables students to identify a starting point and make informed choices about the subjects, courses, and activities they engage in.
At JGS, teachers aim to assist students to implement new learnings. Listening, reading, writing and expressing skills help them apply, explore & experiment the new learnings. JGS pedagogy teaches to apply learnings to questions rather than accept the received wisdom. By applying the knowledge gained, we encourage students to learn real-world aptitudes.
By understanding the diverse experiences and activities of students, JGS helps them adapt to society. Skills such as interpreting, exemplifying, classifying, comparing, and explaining different scenarios enable students to understand, connect, relate, and contribute meaningfully to this interconnected world.
At JGS, learning becomes a passion, which then transforms into a lifelong treasure. Teachings and learnings are recited, retrieved, and retained, becoming valuable knowledge stored in the minds of students. This process fosters comprehensive cognitive and creative development that stays with them throughout their lives. At JGS, we strive to provide an extensive pedagogy that nurtures children into adulthood and propels them toward future success.

Sri Mudiraj Memorial School - A SPECIAL INITIATIVE

Giving back to society what we have received

JGS, as it is fondly called by all of us, is a name that has left an indelible mark in the hearts of many. It has always been the constant endeavour of this close-knit family to provide children with the best, much like a parent who nurtures their child with love, care, and attention. Forty years ago, we embarked on this journey under the guidance of Sri S.R.N. Mudiraj, the Founder Chairman of the school. He passed on this legacy to the next generation, and Dr. B. Chandra Sekhar, with his progressive vision and intellect, elevated it to even greater heights. The society—including parents, staff, teachers, ex-students, students, and well-wishers—has consistently rendered its unwavering support. JGS believes that the time has come to give back to society what it has so generously received.

As beautifully reflected in our School Song:

‘Give me the strength to own the poor;
Nor bend my knees before insolent might’
,

the JGS fraternity is committed to contributing to a larger cause. Over the past 40 years, we have extended our hand to those in need, and in continuation of this effort, Johnson Grammar School, I.C.S.E., has established a school for the less privileged. We have welcomed a small group of students from underprivileged backgrounds and placed them under the guidance of our experienced faculty. The management has committed to supporting not only their educational needs but also essential requirements such as uniforms, food, and books. This school, named in honour of our esteemed Founder Chairman, is called Sri Mudiraj Memorial School.
